The Maternal School of the UPN was created by Resolution 0238 of March 1, 2004, and took the Decree 2247 of September 11, 1997, chapter 1, Article 4, as a legal standard which says: “The educational establishments that provide preschool education service and also catering children under four (4) years old, must do in accordance with their Institutional Educational Project (PEI), considering the health, nutrition and protection requirements of children, so they are guaranteed the best conditions for their holistic development, under the law in force and the guidelines of the relevant bodies.”

In accordance with the above, the Maternal School recognizes within the institutional project that the most relevant thing the children face during their early childhood is the development of cognitive, socio-affective and ethical processes; therefore, it is necessary to create educational settings promoting the complete well-being of children.
